In this seminar, hosted by Toni Ratzlaff, participants will have the opportunity to make sketchbooks and journals from many materials—including recycling. Several methods will be presented. Each person attending will receive a packet of instructions for many books which can be made and modified for any age group. Examples of completed hand-made books will also be available with ideas for customizing books to meet the needs of any classroom or use. Attendees will use one of their finished books as a nature journal in the afternoon.

Working with a nature journal as a guide, learn how to put into practice creative activities that will enhance learning and still meet curriculum standards. Must register in advance. Course fee is $50, with additional fees to earn credit through Adams State College and/or BOCES recertification.

Flags which are no longer in good condition should be respectfully retired and replaced with bright, new flags to represent our country. To assist our local community with this process, Teller Senior Coalition is collecting flags for retirement. The Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 11411 (Florissant-Lake George) will conduct a flag disposal ceremony at the Lake George Fire Department on Saturday, August 21, 2010, at 10:00 a.m. The public is invited to witness and participate in this short ceremony to pay due respect to the symbol of our nation. You may bring your flag to Teller Senior Coalition at 312 North Center Street in Woodland Park by August 20th, and it will be transported to the ceremony.
If a burn ban is in effect, the ceremony will be rescheduled.

The 8th Annual TCRAS Hawgs for Hounds poker run to benefit Teller County Regional Animals Shelter, a private, no-kill nonprofit operation, is Sunday, July 25, 2010. The ride begins at Benny’s on the west side of Colorado Springs with a $5 breakfast buffet and $3 drink specials, and winds for 100 miles through the beautiful mountains of Teller County ending at the Crystola Roadhouse. Mayor Spright, the shelter’s ambassador, will be on hand to listen to your suggestions and concerns regarding homeless pets. Adoptable dogs from the shelter will also be in attendance looking for their forever homes. The after-party will include raffle prizes, 50/50 drawing, live music, great food, and tons-o-fun!
