| | A wonderful, family-friendly no admission event to cap off the July 4th weekend! At approximately 5:15 p.m. the Florissant Fossils, an always popular bluegrass band, will play until about 6:45. Beginning at 7:30, the Colorado Springs Philharmonic will play a concert of popular music, show tunes and light classics. The finale of the program is always the "Overture to the 1812", complete with lots of bells and the cannons from Ft. Carson. The city-sponsored fireworks after dark provide an excellent finish for the evening. Gates open at 5:00 so come early for the best spots, bring your lawn chairs and a picnic, or plan to get some refreshments from the Booster Club stand on the field. This is a delightful evening for the entire family. NO ANIMALS AND NO ALCOHOL.

| | Saturday, July 18 the Lake George Gem & Mineral Club (LGGMC), will host a program that includes a one-hour presentation and two-hour guided tour of the Victor area to benefit the Victor Lowell Thomas Museum. There will be two sessions for the event on July 18 – one at 9 a.m. and 1 p.m. This is a great opportunity to learn about Victor’s gold rush history from Steven Veatch, a well-known geologist, historian and author.
The presentation, which will be held at the Victor Community Center at Second and Portland Avenue in Victor, will be about one hour long, followed by a guided two-hour tour, packed with information, through the Victor area historic sites. Carpooling will be required. The cost for the event is $10 per person, including handouts. Please reserve your space by calling 719-689-5509. The LGGMC is donating all the proceeds of this event to the Victor Lowell Thomas Museum’s building restoration fund. This 50-year old museum houses gold rush era history in downtown Victor.
The LGGMC study group this year chose to delve into the little-known facts of Victor’s amazing history, the famous mines on Battle Hill that made Victor famous, and investigate to remarkable minerals of the mining district.

| | The Relay for Life is celebrating raising money and awareness for cancer research for 25 years! For the past 11 years Teller residents have been holding a relay in Woodland Park. This year there will be music, food and game booths and lots of fun all night long.
Come out, support your neighbors and enjoy an evening in Woodland Park.
Bring the family for the opening ceremony at 7:00 PM, stick around and play some games. At 9:30 PM will be a memorial ceremony that is moving and special. Decorate a luminaria bag that night or stop by the Farmer's Market every Friday and purchase one there. All proceeds benefit The American Cancer Society.

| | Adopt a Rescue Animal and Get Free Admission to the RMDRC! Bring the family out for some real “live” entertainment at Critter Fest 2009, Saturday August 1st and Sunday August 2nd from 10 am – 3 pm. This event will bring together animal rescue, rehabilitation and protection groups and other animal organizations from around Colorado to present valuable information to the public.
This year we have over 20 animal rehabilitation groups, protection groups and other organizations outside the museum FREE to the public including Rocky Mountain Wildlife Foundation (Wolf Rescue), Dreampower, Chinese Sharpei, Colorado Greyhound Adoptions, Mile High Weimaraner Rescue, TCRAS, Colorado Reptile Humane Society, Colorado Pug Rescue, Peke and Pom Rescue, Florissant Fossil Beds, Cheyenne Mountain Zoomobile, The Flash and Thelma Memorial Hedgehog Rescue and many more.
Our guest speakers will be held in the RMDRC marine area inside the museum. Guest speakers include Jeanne McElderry from Garden of the Gods speaking on “Bats”, Rocky Mountain Wildlife Foundation speaking on “Wolves”, Colorado Reptile Humane Society, Colorado Division Of Wildlife speaking on “Gardening With Wildlife”, Colorado Springs Utilities speaking on “Raptor Protection”,The Flash and Thelma Memorial Hedgehog Rescue and more. Lectures are free with paid museum admission. RMDRC members are free.
